Be the Leading Lady of Your Own Life!
The year of 2020 has been challenging for everyone and highly stressful for some. We all handle unexpected situations differently and react and respond to events in our own way. Whether you are one to push through and keep things together or would prefer to retreat to a hideaway we need to ramp up our self-care and take responsibility for wellbeing.
Whatever we’re going through, our body takes in everything, all the time. We need to pay attention, be aware of what it’s telling us and take care of ourselves first.
We all know our wellbeing is important and requires a holistic approach – nourishing food, regular exercise, plenty of sleep, healthy relationships, mindfulness. In stressful times though, we often let these things slip. Being committed to your own wellbeing, having the discipline to put ourselves first helps us stay on top and prevents stress and burnout.
Here are five areas I’ve learned to consider…
Letting go and saying no
Think of what you can let go of to create more ease in your life. You don’t have to ‘do it all’. You don’t have to be everything to everyone. What can you delegate? Who do you need to say No to? Where do you need to set boundaries? What no longer serves you?
Feel it and do it anyway
What are you not doing because it brings up feelings of anxiety, fear and being not enough? Noticing and becoming aware of those feelings is the way through. They are just feelings. When we surrender them and move in, take the next step, we take a leap forward.
Organise and prioritise
Plan your week and make sure you block out time in your calendar for exercise and time just for you! Give yourself at least 30 minutes each day and one day per week. Review and reset your goals. Are they still what you want? Do they need tweaking?
Pay attention to what brings you joy and choose more of that. What lights you up? What are you grateful for? Who do you love to spend time with? The more joy and gratitude we have, the less things get to us.
You’re not going to get it right all the time. Don’t let perfect get in the way of being better. There will be times you get to bed too late or you had take-away instead of making a nutritious meal so you feel lethargic the next day. Be kind to yourself and get back to your wellbeing plan.
Becoming the leading lady of your own life means doing what is right for You! Making you and your wellbeing the priority will benefit everyone around you.
