Beyond Burnout : Living Consciously

Are you stuck in an environment where working harder, putting in more hours and doing whatever it takes to get the job done is seen as the norm?

Times are changing and we need to change this point of view, the expectation that if you want to get somewhere you need to put in the hours.  You keep taking on extra projects, working late or taking work home but whether it’s sooner or later, the signs appear – insomnia, more caffeine or alcohol, digestive problems and energy slumps in the day.  Things start to feel harder, even overwhelming and continuing this stress cycle long term just doesn’t work for you, your family, or the company.  You reach a point where you’re functioning on overdrive all the time and running on adrenal energy, while the voice inside whispers… “I wish I could just stop, just for a while”.

This was all too real for me when in my last role in corporate business, and despite the fact I loved my job and the fast pace…  I did eventually burn out.  I was mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted – what I call soul tired.

The body tells us when we’re taking it for granted, not paying enough attention to it, not listening or being aware of the signs… when we’re being unconscious.

It was a pivotal time in my life, I was unable to work at all for a couple of years and I tried many different modalities and read up on various practices looking for ways to get well.

The way back meant I had to make different choices, be open to new therapies, change my diet and in time a new career path.  It required I pay attention to my body and my life and really make conscious choices.

I discovered and came to understand at a deep level that we create our own reality and looked for ways to restore my energy.

Gradually, through detoxing my body, a plant-based diet, meditation, energy healing, Chinese medicine and time in nature, I healed.  I supported this by making time for things I was passionate about, things that brought me joy and made me light up.

If you feel like something is off, want to raise your energy levels, take a step back and look at what might need to change in your life…  Is it your job, environment, friends?  What is draining you or not serving you?  Are you keeping up your self-care?  See what you might change to bring you more joy, what would bring greater possibilities?  You might try using these questions as journal prompts.

And most importantly… always make choices without judgement!
